This one-of-a-kind session captures the great Cuban saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera in a quintet format during his 1976 recordings in Finland. Backed by Esko Linnavalli (piano), Esko Rosnell (drums), Oscar Valdés (percussion), and Danish virtuoso bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, D’Rivera delivers a powerful blend of Cuban influences, jazz standards, and original works. Highlights include a moving rendition of Carlos Puebla’s “Hasta Siempre” (dedicated to Ché Guevara), Billy Eckstine’s “I Want To Talk About You,” and “Stella By Starlight.” A duet with Chucho Valdés from the same period is included as a bonus track.
